When is a peach tree most fruitful?

i just moved into a place with one and the peaches are very small, i was wondering what month/season do they most ripen in california.

When is a peach tree most fruitful?
Different peach tree varieties ripen their fruit at different times. I live in California, too, and the earliest peaches are ripe, the midseason peaches are ripening, and the late season peaches will be coming on within the next month. If all the peaches are quite small and growing close together, the previous owner of the peach tree may not have thinned the fruit. The large peaches you get in the store are obtained by removing the excess number of fruit when they are small and green, so there is at least 6 inches between the fruits. If yours were not thinned, don't despair - they may still ripen into some tasty fruit, just not as large as what you were expecting. No matter what size, they are ripe when they are fully colored, with no green remaining, and "give" when gently pressed. They also will smell very peachy!
Reply:First thought: the spring time, when their very round.
Reply:It depends on the type of peach and where you live. I'm in Ohio and right now is just about the best time of year for them, but where you live may be different. Contact a local greenhouse and they should be able to tell you.
