My peach trees have yellowing leaves. I'm in SE New Mexico. It seems not normal. What might it be?

From what I have read, a few yellowing leaves is normal, especially with the hot summer we are going through this year.

"Watering

For optimum growth, peach trees require a constant supply of water. This should be increased shortly before the harvest. The best tasting fruit is produced when the peach is watered throughout the season. Drip irrigation is ideal, at least one dripper per tree. Although it is better to use multiple drippers around the tree, this is not necessary. A quarter of the root being watered is sufficient.

Fertilizing

Peaches have a high nutrient requirement, needing more nitrogen than most other fruit trees. An NPK fertilizer can be applied regularly, and an additional mulch of poultry manure in autumn soon after the harvest will benefit the tree. If the leaves of the peach are yellow or small, the tree needs more nitrogen. Blood meal and bone meal, 3–5 kg per mature tree, or calcium ammonium nitrate, 0.5–1 kg, are suitable fertilizers. This also applies if the tree is putting forth little growth.

Tips for good fruit

If the full amount of peaches is left, they will be under-sized and lacking in sugar and flavour. In dry conditions, extra watering is important. The fruit should be thinned when they have reached 2 cm in diameter, usually about 2 months after flowering. Fresh fruit are best consumed on the day of picking, and do not keep well. They are best eaten when the fruit is slightly soft, having aroma, and heated by the sun."

You're dealing with a really hot summer in that part of the country; when this occurs, peach trees often drop leaves for the same reason that they drop them in the fall - to cut down on the need for water. As long as it's not a huge percentage of the leaves on the tree, it's probably best to simply allow it to happen. It's not THAT far from fall, and presumably your crop has already made. Just follow your normal routine to prepare for next year's crop.
Reply:Yellowing can be a sign of nutrient deficiancies too (usually iron or nitrogen) If you have a good garden center around, bring them some leaves, they should be able to tell whether it is a deficiancy or just from the heat.
Reply:could be lack of water or some of the leaves are old and turn color and fall off and new ones growl
Reply:They need ashes to get green, but a good goat, rabit excrement would help them also very good.

A peach tree will produce an average of 200 lbs. of fruit per year, unless it is too crowded by other trees.?

Fifty trees per acre is acceptable, but each additional tree over fifty will reduce the annual yield of each tree by 1 lb.

Write a rule for the total yield per acre whose input is the number of trees per acre.

Use the rule to find the total yield per acre if 70 trees per acre are planted.

Use the rule to find how many trees per acre should be planted to yeild 13,689 lbs. of fruit per acre.

A peach tree will produce an average of 200 lbs. of fruit per year, unless it is too crowded by other trees.?
you need to make a 'step function'

y = 200x for x%26lt;=50

and

y=(200 - (x - 50) )x

=(250 - x)x for x%26gt;=50

so the whole function is

y(x) = { 200x .............. for x%26lt;=50

..........{ (250 - x)x ........for x%26gt;50

put x=70 in the second part

gives y(70)=(250 - 70)70=12600lb

for 13689lb question note if x=50 y=10000%26lt;13689

so we need to solve the equate the 2nd part ie

(250-x)x = 13689

x^2 - 250x +13689 = 0

solve for x using the quadratic formula gives

x=81 and 169 so there are two answers,

it would obviously be easier and cheaper to maintain 81 trees than 169 though

What is the difference between peach cobbler and peach pie?

A pie has a shell bottom (pie crust) made out of flour butter (or shortening) and water. It doesn't necessarily need a top. A cobbler has the fruit touching the pan or baking dish with a topping on it normally made from sugars (brown and white) flour sometimes oatmeal. People sometimes even consider a cobbler fruit topped with Bisquick baked together. In short a pie has a crust bottom and can be sliced and served in wedges and a cobbler has no bottom except fruit and is normally scooped into a bowl.

What is the difference between peach cobbler and peach pie?
Not much!!! the cobbler is just bigger!!

My next door neighbor always made cobblers with bottom crusts and bits of crust in the fruit.

My mother always made cobblers with butter on bottom, then the batter poured over that and the fruit scattered on top.

My mother in law always made her cobblers with the bits of crust tossed in a large kettle, cooked on top of the stove not baked, with the fruit to make the fruit juice thicken.

Chuckwagon cooks like my granddad tossed the fruit into a buttered dutchoven and tossed biscuit dough on it, put the lid on and buried the thing over coals in the ground.

Pies are formal little things with a fancy crimped edge whether they get full top, no top or lattice top.
Reply:Some people make it almost the same, cobbler in square pan, no bottom crust, pie in a round one.

I make cobbler the way bisquick says, more or less. I get the juicy peach stuff ready, cut up a stick of butter and lay it on top, heat it in the oven. Then I make sweet dough with oatmeal %26amp; bisquick, milk %26amp; sugar. Then I make a streusel for the top--pecans, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon. I pull the hot peach stuff out and drop by spoonfulls the sweet dough, topped with streusel. Cook until done. It's great!
Reply:peach cobbler does not have a bottom crust like a pie does. Usually peach cobbler only has a struesel topping. both are very yummy though!
Reply:Cobbler is put into a larger pan, like a cake size pan or larger, and is usually more juicy than a pie. Peach is an awesome pie or cobbler. Pie you slice and is best if not too syryupy, and cobbler you scoop out. They are similiar otherwise, taste the same.

☆EDIT: I almost forgot, the Japanese word for 'thigh' is 'mómo' also.(futo-momo) In hiragana もも; 太もも

Is 'peach' in Japanese in hiragana or katakana?
I see it most often in hiragana. I rarely see it in katakana, but I probably miss it when it's in kanji, so it could be written down all over the place without me noticing!!! But as I said, it's usually in hiragana.

; )

Oh, but if you mean 'peach' literally, it would be in katakana - as it's a foreign word;

ピーチ (Piichi)
Reply:Hiragana.

My peach tree already has flowers but the temp tonite will be below freezing. Can it still bear fruit?

Can the tree handle a mild frost and still bear fruit?

My peach tree already has flowers but the temp tonite will be below freezing. Can it still bear fruit?
Check out the following website for information about critical temps for fruit at various stages of development. http://www.canr.msu.edu/vanburen/crtmptx...

If it is in full bloom, you will have 10% of your fruit killed at 27 degrees F. If the temperature drops to 24 degrees F, you will get 90% kill. Remember that cold air settles in the lowest spots of the landscape so the effects of a freeze will be greatest near the ground.

Commercial growers use several methods to protect their crops in the event of a late freeze. Here are a few:

1. Wind machines - circulate the air to prevent cold pockets.

2. Smudge Pots - pots that burn oil to keep temperatures up.

3. Overhead sprinkling - water is applied and it freezes sealing off the buds at a temperature that is above the critical stage.

In the event that temps will drop below the critical stage you can keep small fires burning near the tree, or place some other source of heat below them until temps rise high enough.
Reply:Usually not on peach trees....they seem to be the most delicate of the fruit trees. I live in the Midwest and the peach orchards have to use salamanders and fans to keep them from freezing . Those things keep the cold air pushed up so that the blossoms don't get damaged.
Reply:it won't yeild as much but if you want to make sure it stays okay take some old blankets or towels and wrap around it(all around but mainly at roots)this will usually help out a lot
Reply:best if you get some sheets cover it up and get up early and uncover it so it doesnt freeze if possible
Reply:More than likely, unless you can cover them, you'll probably lose most of them.
Reply:water it down with hose water will freeze but not the blossoms
Reply:The problem is the cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time. Some of the flowers will survive a mild frost and this thinning by mother nature will save you some thinning later but cold temperatures in the low 20's could take them all for this year ----time will tell You can break open a flower tomorrow morning and brown center means it is gone.

Bacardi Peach Red song? Need Artist and Title!?
Yeah, that's a real tough one to find...lots of people have already asked about it and no one has found any lyrics. I think the closest anyone came was writing to Barcadi and they got a reply basically saying "thank you for your comment".

It looks like it's one of those songs that they just made up especially for the ad and don't intend on saying who sang it and what the lyrics are.
Reply:I received an e-mail from Bacardi. Copy:Music featured in the spot is composed and sung by Pete Miser. He is also the composer of the tracks featured in the new BACARDI Flavors commercials.
