Can you plant the seed from an eaten peach?

My son and I ate a peach and he wants to plant the seeds from them. Are they still alive(or plantable) or just dead seeds?

Can you plant the seed from an eaten peach?
There is now a fully grown peach tree in an old property I used to live at. I discarded a peach stone in the garden. Apparently it takes about 7 years to reach maturity. IE: bearing fruit
Reply:go ahead girl.
Reply:let it dry in the sun, then put it about half way down in a glass of water, use toothpicks to hold it about halfway out of the water to germinate then plant it!
Reply:Yes you can plant a peach pit. Since it is a hard shelled seed you need to break the hard cover. My grandfather use to take his pits and stick them in the freezer for 2 days. It will not harm the inner seed but will cause the moisture to crack the outer shell. This will allow the inner seed to be able to send out its tap root and sprout from there. He had many successes with peaches, plum, and nectarines. Plant the seed about 4" deep and keep it watered once you do the freeze thing. You should get a sprout in fairly sort order with only one leaf at first. Happy planting.
Reply:Yes, my boyfriend has but he soaks the seed first to make it easier to grow. It will sprout faster ( although it still will be a long time before you see results!) Good Luck! Soaking any seed will help it to germinate quicker.
Reply:yes you can. You need to dry the seed out first.
